On this day 12 years ago, Amanda Shapiro ’04 earned All-NESCAC honors in three breaststroke events at the NESCAC Swimming Championships.
The former Bear also set three Wesleyan University records as she took second in the 50 breast (29.98), third in the 100 breast (1:04.79), and second in the 200 breast (2:24.76) to earn All-Conference honors in each event. Her 100 and 200 times also qualified her for the Division III National Championships.
Shapiro also joined forces with Kate Krems, Caitlin Bethlahmy, and Agnes Koczo to set a school record in the 400 medley relay with a mark of 3:58.77 that earned them a third place finish and an NCAAs ‘B’ cut.
Shapiro went on to finish 5th in the 200 breaststroke and 6th in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships, earning All-American status in each. After a sensational sophomore season she won the Wesleyan Coaches Award the Cardinal Award.
