Last night, the boys’ basketball team topped Mercy, 51-43. Here is a recap and photos of the game from George Faella of RiverheadLOCAL.
Mercy Falls to Stony Brook
Stony Brook School defeated McGann-Mercy, 51-43, at McGann-Mercy HS.
The Mercy boys squad was down to just six players. The flu had ravaged the remainder of the bench and they were facing a good Stony Brook team.
Mercy played a little harder than normal and put together a good game, considering that the boys were gassed by the third quarter. They played a tight defense, forcing Stony Brook to the three-point perimeter.
The Monarchs erased several sizable deficits and always kept the game close. They were down 25-18 at the half but were running on fumes going into the second half. They managed to come within four points in the fourth quarter but Stony Brook held on for a 51-43 win.
Mercy is 1-6 in conference and 7-9 overall.
