Yesterday afternoon, Jyles Etienne ’17 took 3rd in the high jump at the Indiana University Relays.
The Bahamian skyscraper passed at the first three heights before clearing 6′ 8.25″ on his first attempt. Unfortunately, on his second attempt at 6′ 9.75″, he reaggravated a hamstring injury that kept him out of two previous competitions for the Hoosiers. Despite having to prematurely end his afternoon, he took 3rd overall out of eleven competitors. Notre Dame’s Matthew Birzer won the event with a leap of 7′ 0.25″, a height Etienne cleared during his senior year at the Brook.
Etienne’s personal best of 7′ 3″, achieved at the Hoosier Open on December 8, remains 7th in America and 1st in the Big Ten Conference.
