Yesterday the NFL Draft Bible published a scouting report on Jerome Washington ’12, indicating that he is a likely draft prospect. The former Bear is currently Rutgers University’s most potent receiver, leading the team in catches (25) and yards (256). His 25 catches are also fourth-best among Big Ten tight ends. Here is the report on Washington:

This player possesses a rare combination of size and athleticism at his position; it’s like tackling a tree trunk in the open field. He plays many different roles in the offense and lines up on the line, in the slot, he does an ok job with his inline blocking—technique has room for improvement.

Used effectively in the short passing game, where they’ll throw him a five-yard out route and let him rumble down the field. An above average route runner. Transferred from Miami, where he stepped away from football after playing one season in 2015, primarily on special teams. He was the top-rated JUCO tight end in the nation when he transferred from Mercer Community College (NJ), to the Hurricanes.

He has eligibility remaining until 2020 but he graduated high school in 2013, so it would not be surprising if he does declare early at some point and continues the Rutgers tight end lineage to the NFL (Tyler Kroft, Clark Harris, LJ Smith, Marco Battaglia). Similar player to Jerell Adams (South Carolina/Giants) and a potential day three selection.

If Washington does get drafted in the future, he will become the second Brooker to ever be drafted into professional football, joining Jack Medd ’40 who was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 89th pick of the 1947 NFL Draft.
