On this day 11 years ago, the boys’ cross country team ended a 13-year County Championship drought by winning the Class D title at the famed Sunken Meadow State Park.

Billy Collins led the way for the Bears, claiming victory in 18:13 to become the latest in a long line of champion Stony Brook runners. Luke Reimer followed closely on his heels in 18:19 to take the runner-up spot. David Hickey (8th/19:44), Thomas Payne (10th/20:06), and Jeffrey Lin (11th/20:19) rounded out the scoring for the Brook. Their team score of 32 bested Shelter Island (43), Pierson (53), and Southold (115).

The victory was the first of three straight titles claimed by the Bears.
