This afternoon, on a blustery day at the Rock Hill Golf Club, the golf team battled through high winds on the way to a historic performance at the League I Championship.

The Bears finished 3rd out of six teams to qualify for next week’s Suffolk County Championship for the first time in program history. Numerous individuals have qualified for the county final in years past, but never the team. Chris Kang (84), Steven Ou (87), Harry Ou (99), Nick Chung (106), and Harry Apazidis (111) combined for a team score of 487 to top the mammoth districts of Middle Country, Comsewogue, and Patchogue-Medford and earn the berth. Additionally, Kang (7th place), Steven Ou (10th), and Harry Ou (18th) qualified for the individual County Championship.

Kang turned in a memorable round to lead the Blue and White. He did not record a single par on the front nine holes, but holed three birdies before chipping in for an eagle on the 12th. Coach Mike Hickey also lauded Steven Ou’s 87, calling it an “outstanding” score considering the windy conditions.

The Bears are back on the links on October 31 in the Suffolk County Championship at Rock Hill Golf Club.
