Swim Records Continue to Fall

September 29, 2017

A new record board is on its way to Swanson Natatorium, but it may be largely obsolete by the time it arrives.

The girls’ swim team has set a torrid pace this season, resetting four school records a total of nine times, including one in yesterday’s dual meet with Sayville/Bayport-Blue Point. Though the Bears fell 42-52 to a talented squad, history was made amid numerous thrilling races.

Individual winners for the Bears were Madi Sargent in the 100 butterfly (1:01.34) and 100 backstroke (1:05.20) and Rebecca Crane in the 100 freestyle (59.81). Rebecca also swam an electrifying race in the 200 individual medley (2:24.15), but was beat out at the wall by less than a second.

The most exciting race of the meet was the day’s final event as our 400 freestyle relay team of Rebecca Crane, Rachel Crane, Sargent, and Yesenia McKee shattered their own school record by nearly three seconds, despite falling to Sayville by a mere 0.32 margin.

The Bears return to the pool next Wednesday in a meet vs. West Babylon at Deer Park High School.
