Yesterday afternoon, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams traveled to Sag Harbor for match-ups with the Whalers at Mashashimuet Park. Each returned to the Brook with convincing victories.
Riley Corcoran and Louis Wang led the way for the boys, tying for first place in a time of 19:11. The Bears then took six of the next eight spots in a dominant 20-41 win. Josh Lin (4th place/19:46), Max Garner (6th/20:19), and Aidan Harrigan (7th/20:23) rounded out the scoring for the Brook. They are now 1-1 on the season. This is the Bears’ third straight victory over the Whalers to go along with wins in 2015 (23-35) and 2016 (21-34).
The girls improved to 2-0 on the season in a 23-37 win over the Whalers thanks to a dominant first place finish by Miranda Harrigan and some excellent pack running. Harrigan covered the course in 21:07, over a minute ahead of the next finisher. Pierson grabbed the second and third place spots, but the next five finishers, and nine of the next ten, were Bears as the Blue and White ran away from the competition. Sarah Wong (4th place/24:16), Vivien Mimura (5th/24:16), Anne-Sarah Nichitiu (6th/25:21), and Judy Tao (7th/25:28) rounded out the scoring. This is the Bears’ second consecutive victory over Pierson along with last year’s 23-36 win.
The Bears are back on the course on October 3 as the boys take on Mercy and the girls face off with Ross at famed Sunken Meadow State Park.
