Hall of Fame Class of 2017

During Homecoming Weekend this October, two more Bears will join 50 other legends in the Stony Brook Athletic Hall of Fame. Peter Carmel ’07 and Kristyn Dunleavy ’07 were the top two vote-getters from a list of ten nominees, selected by a ten-member panel of Stony Brook Hall of Famers.

Here is the resume for each of the inductees. Fuller recollections of each athlete will follow after the weekend. We hope you can join us at the induction on Saturday, October 14 @ 10:45am in Carson Auditorium.


Stony Brook School

  • Postseason Honors: All-State in soccer (2007), All-State in basketball (2007), All-State & All-County in track (2007) & All-County in soccer (2005)
  • Class Night Awards: Swanson Trophy for Best All-Around Athlete (2006 & 2007), Soccer Performance Award (2006), Soccer Contribution Award (2007), Basketball Contribution Award (2007) & Track Performance Award (2007)
  • Team Accomplishments: Starting goalie for League Championships soccer team (2004), Starting power forward for League & County Championship basketball team (2007), anchor for 4×100 meter relay team that set the school record & finished 2nd at State Championships
  • Additional Accomplishments: Bear Blanket recipient

SUNY New Paltz Soccer & Basketball

  • Soccer: Started 11 games at keeper in 2009… 140 career saves
  • Basketball: 2010 SUNYAC All-Academic Team. Saw action in all but one game in 2010 & 2011. Averaged 11.6 minutes per game as a key reserve.

Stony Brook School

  • Postseason Honors: All-State in basketball (2006 & 2007), Newsday All-Long Island Basketball Team (2007) & All-County in basketball (2005-2007)
  • Class Night Awards: Swanson Superior Performance Award (2006 & 2007), Basketball Performance Award (2004-2007) & Volleyball Performance Award (2007)
  • School Records & Milestones: School record for points in a game on two occasions (39) & 1,000 career points (2nd in program to reach 1,000)
  • Team accomplishments: Top performer on League Championship basketball team (2005-2007) & top performer on County & Long Island Championship basketball team (2007)

Amherst College Basketball

  • 2011: Key reserve on Division III National Championship team. Scored 10 points in final eight minutes of National Semifinal.
