
On this day five years ago, Taylor Colucci became Stony Brook’s first individual New York State Champion in 29 years as he ran away with the Division II 200 meters in a time of 22.70. The last individual State Champion was Roger Wycoff who took the 500 freestyle title at the 1983 State Swimming Championships.
That same day Colucci, ran the second leg of the Bears’ 4×100 meter relay team which also took the state crown. Mark Brathwaite, Ed Kim, Austin Sutton, and Colucci scorched the track with a time of 44.14 to become the first State Champion relay team in school history.
Colucci would go on to cap his season with a national title, winning the Emerging Elite 200 meters at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in a time of 22.18.
