This morning, the New York State Sportswriters Association released their boys’ basketball All-State teams. Mac Bohuny (7th Team), Jyles Etienne (8th Team), and Brandon Providence (Honorable Mention) were all recognized by the NYSSWA. This was the second All-State recognition for Etienne and the first for Bohuny and Providence. At least one Bear has made the All-State list every year since 2013 and have missed just one year since 2006.
In addition to the All-State recognition, Bohuny was named All-Conference and All-League and earned the Sportsmanship Award at the Final Four. Etienne was named All-League and honored on the Final Four All-Tournament Team along with Providence.
This trio of seniors was the spearhead of one of the finest teams in Stony Brook basketball history. They led the Brook to a fifth consecutive Class C Suffolk Championship (a Class C record), the program’s first Regional Championship, and nearly a spot in the State Championship after an incredible comeback effort in the Final Four. Along with seniors Harry Zhu, John Eshirow, and Austin Amadio, this incredible group will go down as perhaps the most successful senior class in Stony Brook boys’ basketball history.
