On Saturday afternoon, the Stony Brook University men’s lacrosse team improved to 4-0 on the season in a 9-6 victory over Fairfield to give the Seawolves their best start in program history. The win also gave head coach Jim Nagle the 200th victory in his 23-year coaching career.
Nagle, a native of Stony Brook and graduate of Ward Melville High School, began his coaching career on our sidelines, assisting coaches John Kenney and David Castle during the 1994 Suffolk County Championship season.
From there, Nagle moved on to Oneonta State where he accumulated a 65-39 record and led the Red Dragons to a #11 national ranking and an NCAA Tournament berth. In 1999 he was named the USILA Division III Coach of the Year.
After his time in Oneonta, he took over the reins at Colgate where he earned Patriot League Coach of the Year honors and led the team to a 2008 conference championship. In his 10 years with the Raiders he amassed 86 victories.
Nagle joined the Seawolves in 2012 and guided them to a victory over Albany in the America East Championship that season. The title earned him America East Coach of the Year honors. This season the team is off to an undefeated start including a 25-17 victory over #9 Brown University. In the latest USILA/Nike poll they are ranked #14 in the country.
