On this day 12 years ago, Scott Heinze became the first Stony Brook wrestler to win an individual County Championship since a foursome of wrestlers won county crowns in 1934.

Heinze, competing in the 161-pound weight class, earned the Brook’s first Suffolk title since Lane Patterson, Doug Watt, and Stony Brook Hall of Famers Julius Ward and Philip Voegelin won championships 70 years earlier. Heinze would go on to the New York State Championships in Buffalo where he medaled and became the first Stony Brook wrestler to be named to the All-State team.

Thomas Brame, Louis Gabel, and Dennis Valet each took home 4th place finishes.
