This Saturday the boys’ basketball team will face off against Pierson in the Suffolk County Class C Championship for the fifth straight year. Here is what you need to know for the match-up.

Game Notes
- The Bears topped the Whalers on Dec. 12 (50-36) & Feb. 2 (63-49). Their victory over Pierson a week ago clinched at least a share of their fourth League VIII Championship in the last five years.
- The Whalers topped the Bears in the 2012 County Championship but the Bears clipped their rivals in 2013 (57-27), 2014 (62-36) & 2015 (44-39).
- The Bears have won five County titles including victories in 2007 & 2010.
- The Bears are 36-13 vs. Pierson under coach Mike Hickey and have won seven in a row vs. the Whalers.
- Besides the 2013-2015 Bears, only one other program has won three consecutive Class C titles: 1981-1983 Wyandanch. The Bears can become the first Class C team to ever win four in a row with a victory on Saturday.
- The Bears are the #1 seed in the Class C tournament for the fifth straight year.
The Whalers, who finished the league season with a record of 6-6, will face an all too familiar foe in Stony Brook, winner of the last three Class C titles, on Saturday at 2:30pm The Whalers lost both games to Stony Brook during the regular season, the most recent by a 63-49 margin on February 2 that Pierson led going into the fourth quarter.~ SagHarborOnline.com
