Bears Still #1

January 19, 2016
Etienne Basketball B 2016

Jyles Etienne scores vs. #1 Bridgehampton last Tue. (PC: Brianna Holochuck)

Despite their undefeated run being snapped over the weekend, the boys’ basketball team retained its hold on the #1 spot in the New York State Sportswriters Association Class C poll.

The Bears fell to Wheaton Academy (Illinois) 48-36 on Friday night and St. Anthony’s (#7 Long Island/#16 NYS Class A) 61-45 on Saturday night in two hard-fought games against excellent opponents. The losses illustrated where some weaknesses were and forced the boys to play tougher mentally and physically than they had all season.

The NYSSWA, recognizing the quality of opponents the Bears played outside of their class, voted the Bears as the #1 team in Class C for the 5th straight week.
