Russo Wins Mile at ‘Nova Open

Yesterday afternoon, Alexandra Russo ’13 took top honors in the mile run at the Villanova Open, besting the field of 31 runners in a time of 5:08.33. She was able to hold off Fordham University’s Kate McCormack who crossed the line in 5:10.23. Her victory helped the Wildcats finish 1st out of nine teams.

Russo, now a junior, competed in last year’s Big East Indoor Championships in the 3000 and 5000 meters. During the outdoor season she placed 4th at the Big East Championships in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

Russo was an All-League runner for the Bears, helping the girls’ cross country team to the 2008 League Championship before finishing her career at St. Anthony’s.
