Stevens 1965 XC
Stevens outclasses the competition at the Ossining Invite

On this day 50 years ago, Dan Stevens won the prestigious Ossining Cross Country Invitational.

Each year, Ossining High School invited the best nine cross country teams in New York to their course in Ossining, NY. Stony Brook’s invitation was a perennial expectation.

Stevens, racing among the best of the best, took first place on the 2.5-mile course in 12:50, the fastest time on the course that season. The Brook finished 3rd as a team.

One year later, the Stony Brook harriers would win the Invitational even though Ossining had won the Class A State Championship a week earlier.
