On Saturday, the swim team had a successful day at the Suffolk County Championships as season’s best times and a school record were achieved in the final meet of the season.

The 200 Medley Relay began the day with their best time of the season as Kate Jones, Rebecca Crane, Rachel Crane, and Francine Leung raced to a time of 2:08.36.

Next, sophomore Rachel Crane achieved a lifetime best in the 200 IM, finishing in a time of 2:21.63 to place 13th out of 22.

8th-grader Rebecca Crane followed with a 25.88 performance in the 50 freestyle, just 0.21 seconds off of her own school record time. Her mark gave her a 13th place finish out of 31 swimmers.

Rachel Crane closed her individual day with a scorching performance in the 100 backstroke, cruising past her own school record by 1.66 seconds in time of 1:02.98.

In the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay team narrowly missed resetting a 13-year-old school record by just 1.37 seconds. Rebecca Crane led off with a 58.41 leg, Josie Levy followed with a 1:04.71, Francine Leung kept the pace with a 1:04.54, and Rachel Crane closed with a strong 58.43 for a total time of 4:06.09. The mark was just a few strokes away from the 2002 time of 4:04.70 set by Lisa Cook, Caitlin Kevins, Caitlin McQuilling, and Amanda Shapiro.

With just two individuals and two relay teams, the Bears still managed a 19th place finish out of 26 teams.

Every girl that competed in the County Championship returns next season, so the future looks bright for the girls’ swim team!
