On this day 36 years ago, Laura Whitney won a third consecutive individual State Championship.
At Green Lakes State Park in Syracuse, the sophomore won her third straight Class B crown in a time of 20:11, a mark that would have earned her the runner-up spot in the Class A race.
Laura would finish 4th at the 1980 State Meet before closing her career with a fourth and final State Championship in 1981.
