On this day 33 years ago, Andy Whitney ’79 won the IC4A (Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America) cross country Championship.

The five-mile race, held at Franklin Park in Boston, attracted over 170 runners from 30 different schools. Whitney, running for the College of William and Mary, set the university division record in a time of 24:27.1, besting the old mark of 24:51.3 set in 1978.
