On this day six years ago, the girls’ soccer team won a thriller over Center Moriches, a team that would go on to the Final Four of the Class B State Tournament.
The scoring hit a torrid pace in the first half as four combined goals were scored in the first 22 minutes. Donna Liotine netted two for the Brook, but the Red Devils knotted the match at 2-2 with 18 minutes remaining. From there, 47 minutes of scoreless soccer ensued until Tina Stavola scored the go-ahead goal with 11 minutes left off of a corner kick from Brianna Stiklickas.
The Bears would go on to win the school’s first team State Championship that season over #1-ranked, undefeated Sauquoit Valley.
