Spring at the Stony Brook School is an exciting time. The chilly weather has dissipated and the campus is blanketed with warm weather, the magnolias trees beside Memorial Hall are primed to explode in a plume of pink and white, prom and graduation are right around the corner, and the promise of summer is renewed. It also means that the blue and white returns to the track, a tradition that goes back over nine decades.

On Thursday afternoon the boys’ track team continued their productive season, improving to 2-0 with a 67-53 win over Mercy. Several individual performances stood out in the team victory. Jyles Etienne soared over 6’2″ in the high jump for the third time already this season, a mark that places him in a tie for third place on Long Island so far this season. Harry Zhu grabbed three points for the Bears by taking second with a jump of 4’9″.

Michael Haynes took first place in the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump, reaching for a distance of 20’3″ to best his previous personal record by a foot. Bogdan Sevastianov took top billing in the mile in a time of 5:13.

The boys will try to keep their undefeated season alive when they travel to Wyandanch on Tuesday.
