The 1927 faculty: Educators. Ballers.

On this day 88 years ago, the Stony Brook faculty defeated the Huntington High School faculty, 23-10, in the annual game between the fellow educators.

Here is the description of the game in The Long Islander:

The members of the Huntington School system faculty fell victims to the faculty members of the Stony Brook School for boys last night when they met on the basketball court in the Woodbury Avenue school. The visitors won by a score of 23 to 10.
The game was a close on up to the last quarter, but at that time the visitors began to draw away from the Huntington teachers.
These two schools have annual games and it always creates considerable interest and a closer fellowship between the men teachers of the two schools.

The article does not elaborate on the details of the game, but I imagine that Frank E. Gaebelein’s wiry strength inside and Pierson Curtis’ quicksilver speed and mind-blowing handles proved too much for the Huntington squad.
