On this day 11 years ago, Nick Miaritis ’01 scored 5 points in Georgetown University’s 9-7 win over Hobart.
The junior midfielder drew first blood for the Hoyas as he drove to his left and found the lower right-hand corner for an unassisted goal. Miaritis’ assist to teammate Walid Hajj gave Georgetown a 3-2 lead after the first quarter. The Hoyas held a 6-4 lead at the half, but Hobart came out strong in the second half, holding Georgetown scoreless for a 21-minute span, allowing the Statesmen to know the game at 6-6.
When their team needed it most, the Miaritis-Hajj connection worked once again as the former Bear found Hajj for what would prove to be the winning goal. Moments later Hajj reciprocated, finding Miaritis for his second score of the day. Miaritis finished with 2 goals and 3 assists as the Hoyas improved to 4-1.
Miaritis would finish the season as the fourth-highest scorer on the team with 26 points.
With the score tied, Georgetown looked to the same players that have stepped up all season: Walid Hajj and Nick Miaritis.
