On this day nine years ago, Amanda Shapiro ’04 became a two-event All-American for the Wesleyan University swim team at the Division III National Championships.
The former Bear placed 5th in the nation in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:23.12 after breaking the team record in preliminaries in 2:21.99. She also took 6th in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:05.32 to close out a memorable sophomore season during which she also broke three team records, earned All-Conference recognition in four events, and won Wesleyan Swimming’s Coaches Award and Cardinal Award.
