Richie Armand ’12 is heroic in the unheralded parts of the game.
He may have only scored two points in tonight’s 59-51 win over the University of New England, but his fingerprint was all over Gordon College’s latest victory. While it would be tempting to point to Jaren Yang’s team-leading 15 points or Hans Miersma’s 12 rebounds as being the catalyst for the Scots, Armand quietly went about leading the team in three important yet often overlooked categories.
The former Bear led the team in assists (5), steals (2), and offensive rebounds (5). For comparison, the entire Nor’eatser squad pulled down 9 offensive rebounds. Armand may not have the lion’s share of Gordon’s points, but his selfless play and willingness to do whatever is takes to win is the engine that makes the team go.
With the win Gordon has earned a berth in the CCC Tournament. Armand and the Scots next take the floor on Saturday against Salve Regina.
