This afternoon, on National Signing Day, senior Emily Pius signed a letter of intent to play soccer at High Point University, a Division I program in High Point, NC.
Emily will be remembered as one of the best soccer players to ever wear the blue and white. She was a six-year starter on the varsity team and is the only remaining member from the State Championship squad of 2009. Her skill and leadership has also helped crowd the trophy cases with four Suffolk County Championships and a Long Island Championship.
She will join a team that finished 12-5-4 last season and made an incredible run through the Big South tournament, beating #2 Winthrop in the semifinals, 2-1 in double-overtime, and #1 Liberty in the championship on penalty kicks. It was the program’s fifth conference title since 2003.
Here is High Point University’s press release about Emily:
Emily Pius is a forward from the Stony Brook School. She is a quick and crafty player who can operate well on the flanks of the attack. Pius is a four-time All-Conference and All-County selection and a two-time All-State selection. She helped to lead her prep team to both a Suffolk County Championship and a State Championship. Pius plays her club soccer with New York Rush."High Point University is an excellent mix of sports and academics," Pius said. "I have enjoyed meeting all of the teammates and coaches. I know I will be able to be successful on and off the field here."
She joins seven other former Bears who are currently playing at the Division I level: Tyler Abrahamsen ’13 (Liberty University/Golf), Alexis Fernandez ’13 (High Point University/Track), Matt Hollis ’14 (High Point University/Track), Austin Hulse ’13 (Sacred Heart University/Wrestling), Kara Lee ’11 (Harvard University/Fencing), Don Liotine ’13 (Stony Brook University/Football), Jerome Washington ’12 (University of Miami/Football).
