Boys’ Basketball Conquers Knights

January 15, 2015

The boys’ basketball team improved to 5-1 in the league this afternoon with a 57-51 victory over Smithtown Christian.

The Bears grabbed a 16-9 lead after the first quarter, then won the second, 13-12, to carry an eight point edge into the break. In the second half the Knights, taking advantage of Stony Brook’s foul trouble, cut the lead to four entering the final quarter. In the fourth the blue and white won the quarter 16-14, hit some big shot and knocked down clutch free throws down the stretch to earn the win.

Jyles Etienne had a big game inside with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Robbie Colarusso scored 17 points and added 9 rebounds. Other contributors were Luke Meyer and Chester Kayonga with 8 points a piece and Luke O’Connor with 7 points. With the victory coach Mike Hickey’s all-time record vs. Smithtown Christian improves to 31-4. The Bears have not lost to the Knights since 2000.
