The 1930-31 squad

On this day 84 years ago, the basketball squad topped Sayville, 19-11.

After winning the first three games of the year over Brooklyn Academy (37-18), Northport (29-20), and Central Islip (27-15), the boys faced a talented Sayville team. In what Res Gestae 1931 called a “rough and tumble game,” the Brook prevailed. Bob Glover and captain Ed “Mac” MacKenzie led the scoring with 6 points each.

That season was the finest to that point in Stony Brook basketball history. Their record of 17-1 would not be bested until 1937-38 when the squad went 18-2.
