On this day 39 years ago, the boys’ cross country team took the Suffolk County B-C Championship at Sunken Meadow State Park, powered by a clean sweep of the top three spots.
Mark Whitney, Mark Soderstrom, and Brad Bright went 1-2-3 for the Brook and Bill Hobbs and Dave Seyfert finished 13th and 14th, respectively, to win the program’s first Suffolk County title of fifteen that would follow over the years.
In county cross country meets, the winning runner seldom runs for the team that wins the race. In the Suffolk County B-C cross country championships yesterday, Stony Brook won the race. In a rather unusual finish, Stony Brook’s Mark Whitney, Mark Soderstrom, and Brad Bright took the first three places.
