Baseball 2011: Season Review

June 23, 2011

The boys look ahead to next spring

The baseball squad had its work cut out for it as it returned to varsity play after two previous years at the junior varsity level.  A lack of depth and experience caused the losses to pile up, but there were several glimpses of greatness that gave evidence a Stony Brook baseball renaissance might not be far off.  Comeback victories over Southold and Greenport showed the team’s mettle and several close encounters with the best teams in the league showed their courage to compete with much larger and more experienced ball clubs.

The future looks bright for the Bears.  Though the team will lose infield wizard Pablo Celis, the upwelling of youth over the last two years may be ready to blossom next spring behind the play of Jerome Washington, Don Liotine, Ryan Haas, Will McEvoy and Cooper Wang.

Postseason Honors

  • Don Liotine | All-League
  • Pablo Celis | All-County Academic
