On this day 27 years ago, sophomore Rich Kinsley pitched a no-hitter in the Shrikes’ 11-1 victory over Longwood. It was not an overpowering performance by the righty, who struck out three and walked six, but it was a decidedly gutsy one as he overcame five Stony Brook errors to earn one of the pitching’s greatest achievements.
Dean Sandbo’s perfect day at the plate led the way for the offense as he tagged the Lions’ hurlers for 3 singles and a double to bring in 3 RBIs while Phil Vega and Julio Rodriguez each had a pair of RBIs. The Shrikes spread out their production, scoring in every inning save the 1st including a five-run 6th that put the game out of reach.
