The 1958 trackmen | Barnes (Front, 1st on left), Searby (Back, 1st on left), Coane (Back, 3rd from left) & Gillan (Back, 2nd from right)

On this day 53 years ago, the mile relay team brought a third 1st place plaque from the Penn Relays back to campus. Wain Barnes, Ray Searby, Tom Gillan, and Stony Brook Hall of Famer Tonnie Coane dusted Franklin Field’s cinder track in a time of 3:34.0 to pace the field and place another trophy beside those from 1949 and 1951.
