
This weekend, members of both the girls’ and boys’ track teams will take on the best competition in the Empire State at the 2011 New York Relays. The event will be held at the gorgeous Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, a $42 million facility completed in 2005 that has hosted the world’s elite runners. In 2008, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt set the 100 meter dash world record with a 9.72 at the Reebok Grand Prix to lead a list of impressive list of athletes like Tyson Gay, Alan Webb, Sanya Richards, Terrence Trammell, and Lopez Lomong that have strode onto the stadium’s track.
Both the boys and girls will run a 3200 meter relay while the boys will additionally compete in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays. Several individuals will compete in the open events as Rebecca Hollis (400 hurdles), Margot Rashba (3000), Matt Hollis (400 hurdles), and Forrest Hull (400 hurdles) will look for personal bests. Taylor Colucci (100 & 200) and Khoren Lawson (100) have additionally qualified for invitational events and will compete in preliminaries on Friday and possibly the finals on Saturday.
