This past Saturday, amid 18 mph winds on the chilly waters of Port Jefferson Harbor, our sail team finished in 2nd place in the Northeast League Fleet Racing Qualifier. In the A Fleet race, Austin Hulse and Cem Hayirli finished in 2nd place behind Mamaroneck while in the B Fleet race Hunter Hulse and Ben Cotten also maneuvered their way to a 2nd place finish.
The scores from each race were combined to determine a winning school and the Brook missed victory by a mere two points. The Bears tied with Mamaroneck but by merit of their higher placement than the Tigers in the B Fleet race, they earned the tiebreaker. The team’s placement enabled them to qualify for the Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Association (MASSA) District Fleet Racing Qualifier held at the United States Coast Guard Academy on April 9 and 10.
