Dunleavy & Amherst Back in Final Four

Dunleavy snips a memento from Amherst’s Regional Final victory

Kristyn Dunleavy ’07 and the 2nd-ranked Amherst College women’s basketball team (30-1) advanced to their third consecutive Final Four with a 68-49 win over 5th-ranked, previously unbeaten Babson College yesterday. The Lord Jeffs will face Christopher Newport University (29-3) in the national semifinals next Friday and hope to avenge their semifinal losses from the previous two seasons.

Dunleavy has been a reliable reserve all season long on one the nation’s elite teams, averaging 12.1 minutes per night while accumulating 134 points, 69 rebounds, 36 assists, 24 steals, and 15 blocks. She has helped Amherst ride a 17-game winning streak since their January 11 loss at Kean University.

With 3:48 remaining in the game, head coach GP Gromacki put his four seniors back into the game to receive one last standing ovation from the home crowd. Jaclyn Daigneault, Sarah Leyman, Kristyn Dunleavy, and Courtney Long are 118-9 as a group, including 74-1 in LeFrak Gymnasium.
