On this day 33 years ago, Dave Wilson turned in a matchless performance against Eastport as he poured in a school record 54 points in his final game for the Shrikes, surpassing the 1,000 point milestone in the process. Both offenses found their stride early as the first quarter ended in a 21-21 draw, with Wilson dropping in 10 points. The Blue and White exploded in the second frame, pouring in 30 points to the Ducks’ 10 behind a remarkable 19 points from Wilson. Already up 20, the Brook extended their lead with a 28-18 third period as Wilson scored another 15, giving him an incredible 44 points through three quarters.
As coach Thom Brownworth remembers, the boys knew he was close to breaking Drake Womack’s school record of 1,025 points and kept feeding him the ball. He finished the fourth quarter with 10 more points giving him 54 on the day, good enough for a tie with Womack for the school record at the time. Though the career points record has since been bested several times, 54 remains the benchmark for individual points in a game. The closest anyone has come to toppling the record was Jonas Fischer who went for 50 on February 10, 1994. Mark Whitney added 20 points and Brad Hargrave contributed 19 as the Brook rolled 100-72, the third time they topped the century mark that season.
