On this day 20 years ago, Dan Shanks turned in his fifth 30-point performance of the season, dropping 30 in a 75-52 win over Shelter Island for the boys’ basketball team. His total was actually less impressive than the 37 he pinned on the Indians on January 14th, but coach Mike Hickey accepted the performance nonetheless.
After beginning the game slowly the last time they met the islanders, the Bears jumped out to an 18-6 lead after one and built a nearly insurmountable advantage after a 21-11 seocnd frame. Adam Fraser and Phil Leek each added 11 points in the victory.
