Liotine & Hennessy Heading to Adelphi University

January 25, 2011

Hennessy (left) and Liotine during a scrimmage with Miller Place last fall

On November 9th, 2010, as the final seconds ticked away from a 1-2 defeat to Friends Academy in the Long Island Championship, we watched sadly as Donna Liotine and Michelle Hennessy walked off the field together for the last time.  Or so we thought.  Liotine, a 2-time All-State honoree and 2009’s New York State Player of the Year, and Hennessy, a 2-time All-State Honoree and the 5th highest scorer on Long Island last season, will keep their dynamic duo intact as they have both decided to attend Adelphi University next year.  The 2 most potent offensive threats in Stony Brook girls soccer history will go from being Bears to Panthers next year and we wish them the best of luck as they take their games to the next level.

One of the reasons I chose to stay close to home was so my family could come see me play.  Their support gives me that extra boost.  It’s awesome that me and Michelle will be playing together because we are on the same school team and club as well.  We are comfortable with each other on the field and off.  I’m so excited and relieved about the whole situation.

It should be exciting.  We can continue working together on a completely new level and hopefully make an impact at Adelphi since we know each other’s playing styles.  It should be beneficial.  Being so close to home is great for our transition into some good college ball while balancing good academics.

The Adelphi women’s soccer team finished 8-7-1 last season and qualified for the Northeast-10 Tournament.  They are coached by Rich Ilsley who in his 20 years with the Panthers has compiled a record of 267-83-29 for an incredible .704 winning percentage.
