Lawson Brings Home Silver from Yale Classic

Lawson dashed to a 2nd place finish

Khoren Lawson had a fantastic day at the Yale High School Track and Field Classic on the campus of Yale University. The senior blazed to three personal records in the 55-meter dash, running his prelim, semifinal, and final in 6.67, 6.64, and 6.58. Blocks were not permitted in the prelims, accounting for his slowest time.

In the semifinal, since Lawson had not used blocks very often this year, he got out of his crouch a bit slowly. In the final, however, the speedy Jamaican found his form and finished 2nd in a field of 175 competitors. After today, Lawson has easily met the state qualifying standard of 6.74 to go along with his qualification in the triple jump. Additionally, his 6.58 is the third-fastest time run in Suffolk County this season.

Notes

Lawson is currently ranked 20th in New York State and 1st in Class C in the triple jump with a leap of 43′ 11.25″.  Additionally, his 6.58 is good enough for a tie for 12th place in New York State and 1st in Class C…  Taylor Colucci’s 6.75 stands in 3rd place in Class C.
