On This Day in History | 1945

January 13, 2011

The Blue & White | Front: Swanson (2nd from left), Medd (3rd from left) & Honsberger (1st on right)

On this 66 years ago, the boys’ basketball team defeated their metropolitan rival Poly Prep, 37-20. Captain Charlie Medd led the offense with 12 points while Fred Honsberger and Dave Swanson anchored the defense.

Showing a little life for the first time all season, the Blue cagers bowled over the fast-stepping Poly Prep five, 37-20. Previously unbeaten, the big boys from Brooklyn met with a sharply-improved underdog who sent them home soundly defeated.
