Girls’ Tennis 2010: Season Review

Tylah Gantt had a memorable season on the court

The girls’ tennis team had a remarkable year led by the indomitable Tylah Gantt. The girls finished the regular season 10-3, 10-2 in League VI, narrowly missing out on their first League Title since 2002. They outscored their opponents, 60-24, in matches and on two occasions shut them out, 7-0. Michelle Avrutin, Nicole and Alissa Antieri, and Alexa and Carlyn Augustine enjoyed great seasons, but Gantt had one of the finest in girls’ tennis history.

After finishing the regular season undefeated, Gantt rolled through the Divison III Tournament, earning the first individual girls’ tennis title since Erica Fugelsang’s 1998 Conference Championship. On the merit of her incredible season, Gantt earned the first All-County nod since Juanita Gonzalez in 2003. All four postseason honorees will be returning next fall, so the future continues to look bright for coach Franny Pistell.
