On This Day in History | 1984

Andy Hoffman (left, shown here in 1983) led the boys to a County Title

On this day 26 years ago…

The boys’ cross country team finished their League VII season undefeated at 9-0, won the Conference IV Championship, and on November 2, 1984 won the program’s fourth Suffolk County Championship. The team was paced by All-County senior Andy Hoffman who covered the difficult Sunken Meadow State Park 3.1-mile course in a blistering 16:54, giving him the individual county title. Four other Shrikes placed in the top ten for a dominant team victory. Since Hoffman’s title run, only two other Stony Brook runners have won the County Championship (Marc Conti/1987 & Billy Collins/2007), but no other Brooker in the last 26 years has gone under 17 minutes at Sunken Meadow. The team went on to place 7th in the New York State Championship while Hoffman placed an outstanding 7th place.
