On this day 46 years ago…
At the famed Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, the cross country team took the team title at the New York University Invitational. Stony Brook Hall of Famer Peter Randall outpaced all other runners to come in 1st and in doing so reestablished the 2.5-mile course record with a time of 12:52. It was the first of three times he would smash the Van Cortlandt milestone during the 1964 season.
Characterized by fantastic workouts and outstanding performance in all competition the 1964 cross country season was the best ever at Stony Brook.~ Res Gestae 1965
