The boys’ soccer team improved their league record to 3-1 (2nd in League VIII) with a gratifying 1-0 win over Greenport. A victory is always satisfying, but this one was especially sweet because it was nearly vacated due to two first half goals being called back. The first score of the game was provided by captain Tyler Anderson on a sparkling bicycle kick that was wiped out by a dangerous play call. A second goal, struck by Anuraag Sah, was erased when Lukas Alijosius was called offsides despite being completely disengaged from the play.
The contest was still frustratingly knotted at 0-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the second half when Sah again found the back of the net, volleying in a teammate’s pass off of the bounce. The Bears take the pitch again tomorrow vs. Pierson @ 4:30pm.
Anuraag Sah scored in the 71st minute off a cross from Khoren Lawson, to give the visitors a 1-0 win. Playing well for Stony Brook was freshman Donnie Pius. Senior goalkeeper Wes Woodley earned his second consecutive shutout.
