Alexa Augustine prepares to serve

On a day when five varsity teams were in competition, the girls’ tennis and volleyball squads each secured big wins against familiar foes. The tennis team traveled to undefeated League VI leader Sachem East and won a tight 4-3 decision to take over first place. The contest proved once again how vital each member of a team is as Alexa Augustine claimed a narrow victory in the last singles slot, coming back to win after dropping the first set. The Bears are now the only remaining undefeated team in League VI. Newsday had this to say about our victory:

Alexa Augustine defeated Daniella Chrysofi in the deciding match in fourth singles to lead Stony Brook (3-0) in League VI.

The volleyball team faced a team they last saw in the Class C County Semifinals last October. The girls felled Pierson/Bridgehampton in that heated match and moved on to the County Final. Today’s contest was much less exciting, but still gratifying for our girls. They dominated the opening game, winning 25-6, then finished off the sweep by scores of 25-19 and 25-12. Emma Moley and Sydney Braat shone as the Brook moved to 2-0 in League VIII, joining Shelter Island and Port Jeff in a tie for first place. Newsday commented on the win:

Emma Moley had 43 sets and Sydney Braat had 15 service aces for Stony Brook (2-0) in a win.
