On Monday evening, the girls’ lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season in Locust Valley with a 10-5 victory over Portledge that clinched a share of their third consecutive PSAA regular season championship. They share the title with Long Island Lutheran which finished the league season with an identical 5-1 record.
In the Bears’ other regular season match-up with Portledge, they opened up a 7-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in a 14-5 win. The rematch was a bit different as the Bears took a 2-0 lead after the opening frame, which they inched out to 3-0 at the half.
With Portledge still very much in the game, the Bears edged them 3-2 and 4-3 over the last two quarters to earn the hard-fought win in enemy territory.
Natalia Pagano led all scorers with 4 goals and 2 assists. Mia Trama (3 G, 1 A), Sophia Dabbraccio (2 G), Payton Martin (1 G), and Ali Puopolo (1 A) also earned points for the Blue & White. Genevieve Rochlin anchored the defense with 7 stops in goal.
The Bears now look ahead to the PSAA playoffs as the #1 seed, earning a semifinal berth for the fifth straight season (not including COVID-canceled 2020). In a rematch of the last four semifinal match-ups, they will face Staten Island Academy at home on Wednesday afternoon.
