Bears Take Down Pope Francis

DeCesare in action this year (PC: Jed Lazzeri)

On Sunday afternoon, the baseball team scored double-digit runs for the 13th time this year in a 12-2 victory over Pope Francis in Springfield, MA.

The Bears scored in each of the first four innings to build an 8-0 lead. Jordan Serrano’s leadoff home run on the game’s second pitch set the tone for the Bears in a productive afternoon at the plate.

The Blue & White lead grew to 10-0 in the 6th on a balk and an Anthony DeCesare double, then 12-0 in the 7th on an error and DeCesare sacrifice fly. The Cardinals finally struck for two runs in the bottom of the 7th, but it was too little too late to avoid the rout.

Serrano (4 R, 2 H, 2 BB) and DeCesare (1 R, 1 H) each registered 3 RBIs to lead the way at the plate. Chris Nell earned the win by giving up just 2 hits and 2 runs over 6.1 innings while striking out 3.
