On Friday afternoon, the boys’ lacrosse team engineered a thrilling 6-5 comeback win over Brentwood in a game that needed three overtime periods to decide the outcome.
The Bears trailed 0-2 after the first quarter and went into the half behind 1-4. The Blue & White outscored the Spartans 2-1 in the third period but were left chasing a 3-5 deficit entering the final frame. That’s when freshman Dom Apazidis put the team on his back.
The Bears notched a pair of goals in the fourth, including Apazidis’ game-tying score with 1:22 remaining. The defense, anchored by goalie Noah Menutti, shut out Brentwood over the final 12 minutes to force OT.
After two scoreless extra periods, Apazidis once again answered the call when he dodged from goal line-extended and pinged the top right corner with 40 seconds left in triple overtime to unleash a dogpile on Spartan soil.
Apazidis led all scorers with 4 goals. Chris Cox (1 G, 1 A), Jason Hong (1 G), Bailey Brett (1 A), Sam Meltzer (1 A), and JD Schmidt (1 A) also scored for the Bears. Menutti finished with a season-high 9 saves.
