On Saturday, the baseball team rang up double-digit runs for the eleventh time this season with a 14-3 victory over Brunswick in Greenwich, CT.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st when Aaron Artsen sent Jordan Serrano (walk) home with a single. After Leo Vitarelli worked around a leadoff double in the bottom half, the Bears extended their advantage with a three-run 2nd thanks to RBIs from Aiden Ruiz (ground out), Serrano (single), and Larry Hotaling III (single).
The Bruins finally lit up their side of the scoreboard in the 3rd with an RBI single that cut their deficit to 1-4. The Bears got the run back in the 5th when a Mateo Lopez singled home a run, but Brunswick answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to pull withing 3-5 heading into the 6th.
In the 6th, the Bears turned a close game into a rout with a nine-run frame that showed off their patience at the plate. A Seth Laureno single (2), Lopez hit-by-pitch (1), Travis Stroud II double (2), Serrano walk (1), Hotaling III walk (1), Artsen walk (1), and Anthony DeCesare hit-by-pitch (1) accounted for the nine runs. Chris Nell took the mound to close out the victory and did just that with a pair of ground outs and a strikeout that ended the mercy rule-shortened game.
Serrano, Hotaling III, Artsen, Lopez, Laureano, and Stroud II each recorded 2 RBIs. Vitarelli earned the win with 3 runs, 8 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
